Congressman Barrow,
It has come to my attention that you are one of the sponsors of the Stop Online Privacy Act. Looking through your site, I do see that you have ample experience with legal issues, which piracy is closely related with. What I do not see is internet and telecommunications issues as part of the topics you describe on your site.
I am a recent naturalized U.S. Citizen, I work for an internet software company, and I do not support SOPA. The internet is one of the most amazing creations of the human race, and most likely the biggest economic driver of our decade.
Companies that want to stop piracy want to do so because their outdated business models are failing and see piracy as their biggest challenge. Censoring the american people to “stop piracy” should not be a byproduct of corporate greed. Freedom of speech and information is infinitely more important.
It should be a corporation’s responsibility to discover a way to decrease piracy and increase revenue, and the government should not aid them in any way whatsoever. This country does not depend on record labels, movie studios, and other legacy industries that are failing for its success. This country depends on freedom.
I look forward to hearing your stance on this issue.
Thank you.
Federico Holgado
